Emberfall Saga
Emberfall Saga is a proper role-playing game that respects your time better than most. Combat is turn-based, positioning matters, and each of your four party members has a distinct role that you can tweak with a light skill tree. I spent way too long fussing over which abilities to unlock next, which is a good sign.
The writing carries it. Side characters have their own small arcs, and the main quest doesn't drag. There's an auto-battle option for grinding, but the boss fights genuinely demand you turn it off and think. Menus are clean and the game saves constantly, so it fits into a commute nicely.
My only gripe is that the early hours hold your hand a bit too much. Push past that and it opens into something surprisingly generous with content.
What we liked
- Tactical turn-based fights that reward planning
- Characters worth caring about
- Fits into short sessions without feeling shallow
